This is the first time I tried preparing it myself and it turned out very delicious.Try this out and enjoy it for yourself!
Ingredients :
1 cup toor dal
1 big red Onion
1 big tomato
1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
2 green chillies
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
1/4 teaspoon of coriander powder
little cinnamon,cloves,bay leaves
some mustard seeds,cumin seeds
curry leaves,coriander leaves
oil (Olive is better),salt,asafoetida as required
Cooking Method :
- Pressure cook toor dal (2 whistles) or partially boil toor dal and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard and cumin seeds.
- add cinnamon,cloves,bay leaves,curry leaves,chillies,ginger-garlic paste and fry for some time.
- add onions, pinch of salt and fry till it becomes golden brown.then add tomato and fry again.
- add garam masala,coriander powder and fry.
- add little water and cook for sometime.
- now add the already boiled toor dal.
- add turmeric powder,asafoetida and salt as required.
- cook for sometime and garnish with coriander leaves.
If you want it to be more spicy, add chilli powder as required.Dal tarka goes well with ghee rice,roti.
